SKA GENERAL INFORMATION

Twenty four years ago, the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach acquired the magnificent campus of the former Lawrence Country Day School in Hewlett Bay Park. In response to the need for continued quality education for its own graduates, as well as students throughout Nassau, Queens, Brooklyn and the Jewish community at large, HALB created the Yeshiva High School for Girls at Hewlett Bay Park, dedicated in 1994 as the Stella K. Abraham High School. A full four year high school accredited by the N.Y. State Board of Regents and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the Stella K. Abraham High School provides academic excellence in both Limudei Kodesh and General Studies, and seeks to inculcate its students with a love for and commitment to Am Yisrael, Torat Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael in consonance with the HALB tradition.

    We are delighted that you are considering applying to our school and eager to share more information about the SKA family. Our school community is proud to include students from over twenty-two elementary schools throughout the tri-state area and we celebrate the achdut that evolves as they coalesce into a unified group, developing lifelong friendships as they learn and grow together.

    We encourage all interested students and parents to attend our Open House,  a unique opportunity to meet administrators, faculty and students and learn about what makes our school such a special place! Community Parlor Meetings provide a smaller, more intimate forum in which to hear more about SKA and ask questions of school, student and parent representatives.  Applicants are warmly invited to join us for our annual musical production, an enjoyable and exciting evening which provides a further glimpse into student life at SKA.  

    Before intersession, applicants are invited to attend a “Day at SKA” program of mini classes and activities designed to familiarize them yet further with the academics, student life, and school culture of SKA.

    The admissions process begins with the completion of an online application (see below), at which point  parents of  applicants will be contacted by our office to schedule an interview. Students who wish to spend an additional day at SKA beyond their interview day and the “Day at SKA”  program are welcome to do so – please email  eflaumenhaft@skahalb.org to schedule that visit.

    Please note that  our school requires the Yeshiva HS Placement Exam as part of an incoming 9th grader’s application.  Registration will be done through The Jewish Education Project.  Participating elementary schools will register their students for the Exam while parents from non-participating schools will have to register individually.  If your school does not participate, please e-mail Shelley Hill at The Jewish Education Project for the registration form on or after August 14, 2016.  Please keep in mind that the registration window is only open for approximately one month and will close in late September.

    Admissions letters are sent to all students in Mid-February and the deadline for SKA registration is in Mid-March.

    ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS

    In order to complete this application you will need to upload a current photograph of the applicant. Please make sure to use a high quality picture, not cropped or modified.

    If you do not have all the information at the time of filling out the application you are able to save your application, and submit it when you are ready.

    This screen will bring you to the DDC Parent Portal Log In.  Please enter your username and password.  If you do not remember your information you can click forgot username and password.  Do not register for a new account.  After logging, please click on the Admissions Module icon in the Parent Portal under My Account.

    When you click the link you will be brought to the HALB portal. Please click “Register.”  You will be prompted to create an account and then directed to the admissions module.  You will have the opportunity to Save your application for submission at a later date.

    HALB is committed to assisting families in need of tuition subsidies with scholarships. Recognizing that many families are facing economic hardships, we wish to assure our parent body that students who qualify for acceptance will be assisted by our Yeshiva.     Bus transportation to Queens/Brooklyn is an additional charge.


    TUITION ASSISTANCE PROCESS

    • Please go to the FACTS website  to complete the forms online. After the online forms have been completed, the following information must be sent to FACTS to finalize the process:
      • Copies of your most recent Federal tax forms including all supporting tax schedules.
      • Copies of your W-2 forms for both parents.
      • Copies of supporting documentation for Social Security Income, Welfare, Child Support, Food Stamps, Workers Compensation and TANF.
    • All supporting documentation can be uploaded and sent in PDF format online.
    • Documentation can also be faxed to 1-866-315-9264 or mailed to:

    Our school is easily accessible to residents throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties, Queens, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Bus transportation is available to students as necessitated by demand. We look forward to assisting parents in this process. For any questions, please contact Esther Schenker at eschenker@halb.org.

    No district student will be allowed on any bus other than his/her assigned bus. If there is an emergency, please make arrangements to have your child get off his/her assigned bus at another official stop. Please send your child with a note stating these details. Please be advised that the districts do not allow transportation for after-school activities. It is the responsibility of the parent to arrange for appropriate carpool transportation.
