Mrs. Helen Spirn, the founding Principal of SKA and Head of School, embodies the character traits and Torah ideals which we hope to instill in our students. Under her expert direction and enthusiastic leadership, the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls is renowned for its outstanding student body, warm and nurturing faculty and uniquely personal atmosphere, where pursuit of academic excellence and religious growth are paramount. A graduate of Yeshiva University, she served as Associate Principal at Bruriah High School for Girls in Elizabeth, New Jersey for thirteen years prior to assuming the leadership at SKA. An involved and caring educator, she is a member of the Advisory Council of the Yeshiva University Institute for University-School Partnership and is admired for the personal interest she takes in the emotional, educational, personal and spiritual growth of her students. It is not unusual to find her in the halls or in the auditorium, talking with students to better understand their goals and dreams, or in Israel, visiting with her graduates. She is recognized in the Jewish educational community as an innovator and many of her programs have been adopted by yeshiva high schools throughout the country. The pulse at SKA is a function of her vision. Her impressive track record as teacher, role model, principal and friend is a source of pride to the Stella K. Abraham High School for Girls.

Mrs. Drebin is an outstanding and dynamic Jewish educator and leader who has spent the last twenty years of her career at YULA Girls’ High School in Los Angeles, most recently as Principal of General Studies since 2010. She has been responsible for curriculum development, faculty recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation, supervision of department chairs, as well as coordination of college guidance, support services and faculty professional development. During her tenure at YULA, Mrs. Drebin has also served as Assistant to the Head of School, Judaic Studies Department Chair, and Grade Level Counselor. She has consistently taught Mathematics and Tanach throughout her educational career at both YULA and the Hanna Sacks Girls’ High School in Chicago, where she served as Chairperson of the Mathematics Department.
A proponent of ongoing teacher training, Mrs. Drebin has served as a Professional Development Instructor at the Online School for Girls and recently presented at the Prizmah Educators’ Conference as an Avichai participant in the Better Lesson program for personalized professional development. In addition to establishing a New Teacher Induction Program, she has introduced her staff to 21st Century learning strategies such as blended learning, flipped classrooms and differentiated instruction and frequently models new learning experiences for teachers and students alike, by adopting new methodology in her own Tanach and Mathematics classes.
Mrs. Drebin received her Bachelor of Arts at Hebrew Theological College and earned her Master of Education degree in School Administration from the New England College. She is the recipient of the 2006 Miliken Family Foundation Jewish Educator Award and helped create the Genesis STEM Academy at YULA. She is a student centered innovator who inspires trust and confidence in students, parents and faculty.
Mrs. Drebin shares SKA’s commitment to academic excellence and our mission of empowering young women to maximize their strengths while taking personal responsibility for their learning and growth. Mrs. Deena Kobre, Associate Principal, joined the SKA Faculty in 2008 teaching Jewish History, AP Psychology and serving as a Grade Level Advisor to the Senior class. She previously taught at HANC and Shevach High School. She earned a Master’s program in Educational Administration at Touro College and recently completed a year long program at the Lookstein ELAI Leadership Program. She brings tremendous warmth, varied experience, and a deep commitment to SKA and is an important presence in our school, especially in her capacity as an Israel Guidance Counselor. She has coordinated our Holocaust Studies curriculum for our seniors, is serving as a faculty mentor and has been selected as our Team Leader for our New Teacher Induction Program with YU’s Institute for School Partnership. We are delighted to welcome Mrs. Kobre to our Senior Leadership team.

Our Director of Religious Guidance, Mrs. Elisheva Kaminetsky, is a graduate of Stern College and has taught in Israeli Yeshivot, including Michlalah and Machon Gold, as well as in the U.S. at Bruriah High School. Mrs. Kaminetsky, the recipient of the Grinspoon Steinhardt Excellent Teacher Award in 2002, brings an unusual energy and devotion to her responsibilities at SKA. She works closely with the Grade Level Advisors, the Limudei Kodesh Faculty and the Mashgiach Ruchani to coordinate religious co-curricular activities at SKA as well as incorporate inyanei d’yoma into the curriculum. She is a beloved teacher, especially in the 11th and 12th grades, where she teaches Chumash and Navi, and a most eclectic and rich Senior Seminar inspiring students in the classroom as well as developing close personal relationships that endure beyond high school.

Mrs. Sandi Pomerantz, our Assistant Administrator, has been with SKA since its inception as Chairperson of the Math Department and served twice as Chairman of the SKA Middle States Evaluation Committee. She earned a BS degree in Math at CCNY and did graduate work at Yeshiva University. Described as a "caring, fun and great teacher," she has brought these characteristics to her administrative role. Supporting Mrs. Spirn, Ms. Chechik, and Dr. Meier in numerous ways, she oversees the administration of standardized tests such as the PSAT and AP exams, and is the "test and make-up test" coordinator. A master teacher, Mrs. Pomerantz says that teaching teenage girls has kept her young as she has created a cadre of math enthusiasts at SKA.

Rabbi Yosef Zakutinsky is our dynamic and beloved Director of Student Programs. In this capacity, he touches the lives of the students who are in the school as he implements programs with tremendous energy, skill and passion, believing that each program educates the hearts and souls of the SKA student body and the faculty as well. He was on the faculty of Bruriah High School and Hillel High School, and was the recipient of the Grinspoon Steinhardt Excellent Teacher Award in 2003. For him, teaching remains the highlight of his day and the students realize this. He is known to be a favorite Rebbe and is respected by all.
